Thread: Are you planning your own wedding?

  1. #11
Thanks Secretfit! I haven't found a venue, but we're looking at the month of June next year. We are looking at a small banquet of about 15-20 tables; something cosy and elegant for the guests. Friends are wishing me luck, saying that it will take a miracle given I haven't planned anything yet. Yikes!

was thinking I'll go to a wedding planner for the full planning package, and get their recommendations on vendors as well. I've read reviews where planners mark up vendors' quotations by about 40%, so that's something I need to bear in mind I guess. I totally hear you on experience being key - thanks for the tip!

Trawling through the Internet I found some planners with interesting sites, like Chere and Rosette Designs. Haven't chanced upon any reviews of these 2 companies though, or their indicative prices. So if you or anyone out there who has worked with them (or any other good wedding planner for that matter), do let me know!

June next year? Wow.. U better start planning! LOL..
some more June is wedding peak period.. A lot of the hotels would be booked on the GD dates already as most wanna avoid the hungry ghost festival.. Not to mention the most popular photographers & makeup artist might already be pre-booked!
In fact you might wanna do your pre-wedding photoshoot soon as the album may take months to prepare..
if you are looking for a full wedding planner package you might wanna hire one soon as the good ones also quite picky leh.. For example my wedding planner will only accept a customer if no other customer booked on the same day as you, preferred date must b at least 6 months away.. And you must give her at least 3 dates to work with lol..

are you only considering hotels? Or restaurants too?

    Hi secretfit,

Good point - didn't figure that the photographers and makeup artists will all be booked as well. I'd very much prefer hotels given that it's easier to coordinate a full wedding banquet package with drinks, dressing rooms, honeymoon suite, etc. Calling a few hotels tomorrow to see their available dates.

Do you mind PM-ing me with your recommended wedding planner please? Many thanks!

It's not just the makeup artists & photographers/ videographers that will be booked..
It's also your preferred justice of peace/ solemnizer, wedding band, emcee, etc etc... Not to mention that 1 dress you were eyeing at your bridal boutique may be reserved by another bride!

My wedding planner is Connie Mak from Love Stories..
You can check out her reviews & website from:

Are you superstitious or approaching feng shui master for dates?
If you are then its better to decide the date 1st before approaching the hotels. If you ask hotels for their available dates, they will try to sell you the inauspicious days one that nobody else wants..
That's what happened to my friend.. they made the package so attractive, throw in everything free, so they sign.. after that then they realised its during hungry ghost festival period.. then when they wanna change the dates hotel say can, but can only change dates within the hungry ghost period.. Sigh..

Thanks Secretfit, much appreciated! Will be calling her this week.

We are not too fussy about dates, so any weekend will do as long as it's not within the ghost month period.
Called a few hotels already and arranging for site visits. Can't wait!

Wow.. you very fast action! LOL..
So which hotels have you shortlisted?

Secretfit, we short listed goodwood, mandarin oriental, raffles, sentosa resort and spa, four seasons and shangri-la.

Shangri-la will be those conference room types since ours is a small wedding. Very low ceiling!

Loved the mandarin oriental but the atrium suites will be a tight squeeze. Think a couple of tables will be blocked as well.

Four seasons doesn't really have a separate solemnization venue per se, so it will be a mad rush for us between solemnization and reception.

Will be making a decision soon after all the site visits are done Wish me luck!

    Good Luck!
Mandarin Oriental- Food is the best, Win hands down! Even my planner says so, standard never drop after all these years. Apparently the chef is from some famous restaurant.
Shangri-la- I never attended wedding there, but heard from a friend's friend who held her wedding there, that if got 2 weddings at same time, things can go wrong..
Goodwood- not sure if parking will be an issue? I don't see many parking lots, unless you park at Far East?

If you are getting a planner then actually the planner should go with you to negotiate the hotel contract as she will look through all the terms & conditions for you & make sure you are not signing some clause that puts you at a disadvantage. Plus they know how to bargain la. I could never do that. My skin too thin.

In any case, do update! And congrats in advance!

Thanks for all, I found good ideas for planning my wedding. Planning needs a proper plan for everything, you should make a list of all essentials which is helpful to memorize and plan perfectly.
